Major Determinants of Suicidal Ideation among the Elderly Persons : Focused on the group difference according to Gender and Age

Abstract
In order to prevent and manage the elderly suicide problem, which is an economic, social, and national problem, at the time of entering the super-aged society, the purpose of this study is to focus on group differences according to gender and age classification. A total of 406 questionnaires data were analyzed for the elderly aged 65 or older. Data analysis used the SPSS 23.0 statistical program, and frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, independent sample T-test, one-way batch variance analysis (ANOVA), correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were performed for demographic, economic, health, and elder abuse factors.
As a result of analyzing the factors that have a significant effect on suicidal thoughts, it was confirmed main factors that men were the recipients of National Basic Livelihood, depression, and elder abuse experiences, and women had depression, anxiety, and elder abuse experience. Meanwhile, 65-74 years old have experienced anxiety, self-esteem, and elder abuse, and 75-84 years old have experienced gender, depression, self-esteem, and elder abuse, It was confirmed that factors such as family type, living alone, recipients of National Basic Livelihood, depression, and elder abuse experiences influenced over the age of 85 and older. Based on the results of the study, the gender-cognitive approach to suicide prevention, and the prevention measures of vulnerable suicidal ideation factors by age group were suggested as practical and policy suggestions.
